The key to giving a good gift is buying someone something they’d never buy themselves, but get good use out of every day. And while so many of us ball-out on clothing, fragrances, skincare, I find the home is often left last. The “mattress on the floor, Rick Owens boots but no bed-frame” meme exists for a reason. Personally, I find some of the most rewarding additions to my inventory have been my home additions. Whether it’s a luxurious scent to fill your recipient’s home with, or a cozy throw blanket for their sofa, home-goods can make for some of the most meaningful gifts.
Olio Churvy Record Stand
A piece out of my own home, this simple wire rack makes for a great vinyl record holder, or a place for your favourite books/magazines!
Braun BC26 Analogue Wall Clock
Like a wall-calendar, I think a wall-clock makes for a mindful piece of decor allowing you to check the time without facing a billion notifications and distractions. Plus, I’ve yet to meet someone who’d turn their nose up at a bit of Bauhaus in their haus.
Hang.Tutti - Alvaro Ucha Rodriguez
Then for a more useful wall piece, this ingenious piece of industrial design leverages bend-out cut-outs to hang and store your favourite things. This could go anywhere from a front entry-way (gloves, sunglasses, wallet), to a bathroom (towels, toothbrush, cups), to a kitchen (look up).
Asano Paper Moon 4
If you know your recipients taste well enough, I wouldn’t shy away from a bit of lighting. Personally I am of the opinion that there’s no such thing as too much ambient lighting, and the warm diffusion that comes from these paper lamps is such a treat.
Taschen Books
If you’d like to gift a nice design or art-centric book, look no further than the publisher Taschen. They offer hundreds of books ranging vastly in size, topic, and price, but there’s some really tremendous examples fit for nearly anyone’s interests.
