One of the most common misconceptions about gift giving is that there’s a linear relationship between dollars spent, and brownie points earned. In reality, you can spend all the money in the world, but if you don’t consider how a gift will fit into someone’s every day life, it could easily fall by the wayside. And to prove my point, I’ve put together a list of sub $50 gifts for this holiday season. Ranging from gadgets, to accessories, to home goods, I attempted to balance taste, utility, and a bit of fun across the assortment. Among the list are top-quality examples of every day goods, little luxuries, and gadgets that bring a little extra flavour to your every day carry. I hope you find some use in this list, happy holidays, and thanks for reading!

Kodak Ektar H35 Half Frame Film Camera

Delivering pretty spectacular value, this half frame camera is the perfect point-and-shoot film camera for any amateur photographer. By taking half-frame shots, it allows you to double the amount of pictures on a single roll of film ex/ if you have a 36 exposure film, this camera can take 72 shots.

BC05 Braun Travel Alarm Clock

You may think that the alarm clock has been made obsolete by the advent of the iPhone, but let me cook. One, a Dieter Rams Braun alarm clock is way swaggier than an iPhone, and looks sick on a bedside table. Two, having a dedicated alarm clock makes it harder to get drawn into your phone right before bed, or first thing in the morning. You’re giving the gift of dope decor and mindful mental health.

Papier D’Armenie Ceramic Burner

A fantastic gift for any home fragrance enjoyer, this geometric glazed-ceramic incense burner isn’t what everyone is used to. Instead of burning sticks or cones, this burner is designed for Papier D’Armenie’s paper incense booklets, which come in around $5 with 36 strips per booklet. Great value for a natural burning scent.

Parrott Canvas Barrier Island Tote

Now that we all have a few hundred cheap, pocketless, frail beige totes in our arsenal, it’s time to upgrade. Parrott Canvas makes hefty 18oz duck canvas totes in the USA, a fantastic gift especially when monogrammed.

Moroccan Babouche Slippers

Now I don’t recommend buying footwear as a gift unless it’s slippers, as they have the most forgiving fit. These soft, colourful, slippers are hand made in Morocco from 100% leather, making an incredible house shoe.

Hand Painted Indian Ceramics

Personally I can’t imagine having too many storage trays, cups, or bowls. Whether it’s for jewellery, writing instruments, paint brushes, trinkets, doodads, they make for charming decor and useful storage instruments.

$20.00+

Upstate Stock Wool/Deerskin Glove

Another forgiving-fitting accessory that’ll see tons of use through winter - a cozy pair of gloves. I love a knitted pair of gloves because they’re super comfortable and pocketable, but I usually go through at least one pair per season. This deerskin palmed version ups the durability without losing comfort or portability.
