Homeware Round-up

Well, it’s just about time for my third move since arriving in Montreal (I know, I have a problem, but bear with me). After moving from my first apartment due to a) the push of an annoying landlord and b) the pull of a better deal, my current landlord has decided to sell my place, putting me on the move as of July 1st. Good news is, I’ve grown very tired of my current neighbourhood (if you live in Montreal, this’ll make lots of sense), and have yearned for a more wholesome living experience for some time. After signing the lease on a wonderful, bright, spacious place in Parc-Ex, I’ve begun a metamorphosis of interior taste. Included in this is a reinvigoration of my interest in home decor. So, having done obsessive amounts of internet scraping over the past few weeks, I want to share my finds with you lovely folks, while giving you a little peek into what my new place might shape up to be. So, without further ado, let me put you onto some of my favourite home decor as of late.

To give you an idea of how this is all laid out, here’s the structure:

  • New Brands: here I’ll show some new homeware brands I’ve been messing with and talking about their offering

  • Vintage Items: these’ll be some vintage items I’ve had my eye on, varying greatly in specificity, from the general category of burlwood furniture, to a DeSede DS-35 couch.

  • Vintage Dealers: here I’ll highlight a few of the vintage dealers I’ve been tracking for good furniture and decor. I’ll be putting together a more comprehensive list in the coming weeks, but this should tie y’all over until then.

New Brands:

Here are a few new decor and furniture brands that have really caught my eye as of late. While I try to stick to mostly vintage stuff for the sake of my wallet, I’ve been coming across more and more compelling contemporary decor brands, some of which aren’t too ridiculous when it comes to price (doesn’t mean they’re cheap). Please enjoy this round-up before I get into what I’ve been looking at vintage-wise.

Parcta

This Australian decor brand came across my desk (explore page) a few months ago and had me hooked immediately. I’m quite taken with everything they make, but their Egress Sconce (pictured above) is what really grabbed my attention at first. There’s an old-world charm to the design, executed in a clean, modernist fashion, a really interesting point of tension I’d love to introduce into my own home.

Hue-Gah Home

Offering a fairly wide selection of items, Hue Gah’s contemporary post-modern designs land chic and elegant rather than gimmicky (in my opinion). I find their lighting, rugs, and burlwood furniture to be particularly strong, and of course I’m a sucker for anything in a brushed metal.

Nordic Knots

A rug can tie a room together or split it in half, and Nordic Knots really gives you the option to do either. I’m quite a fan of about 50% of their offering (to be expected, they have a lot of styles), but I find them to be a lot less gauche compared to a lot of the other big rug e-commerce brands. Additionally, their considered art direction makes for great inspiration when it comes to rug styling.

The Oblist

Curation at a very high level of up-and-coming designers, some of which are on this list. The Oblist carries some justifiably (and insanely) expensive items of furniture, decor, and art that serve as incredible inspiration for folks like myself. Whether or not you can afford their curation, I highly recommend you follow them for reference alone.

Love Ecru

I’ve really been digging metal tableware like this, feels very 1960s Italian, and contrasts wonderfully with some of the rougher elements of my taste. While I’ve yet to experience their products personally, Love Ecru has come across my figurative desk many a time, and I’m hoping to check them out in-person soon.

Alessi

The iconically playful Alessi is another company I’d really love to introduce into my new home. Ever since I was a kid I remember being distinctly attracted to their bright colours and shiny surfaces, and now I’ve grown to appreciate their objects as a fun yet functional feature of many kitchens.

Veark

Continuing into the kitchen, Veark’s modern utilitarian approach to organization is very attractive to a clutter-prone nut like myself. If my layout allows for it, I’ll be surrounded on all sides by their magnetic utensil racks while cooking.

Deluu

Here we have a Quebec based furniture maker doing beautifully simple work with steel and aluminum. Given the quality of their work and design I’d consider their pricing to be quite reasonable, and something I’d consider adding into my future living room.
